AES Conventie maart 2003 in Amsterdam

AES, december 2002

Onder de titel: A Sound Investment for the Future vindt op 22-25 maart 2003 de 114de Conventie van de Audio Engineering Society plaats. Hieronder de aankondiging van dit congres.

In just a few months, the European AES Convention will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. As the only professional Convention devoted exclusively to audio technology, the AES Convention is known as an important event for exhibitors, engineers, scientists and those from the recording, broadcasting and live sound worlds. Located near one of the most important European airports, Schipol, the Amsterdam RAI Convention Center is easy to reach from all parts of the world on a cost-effective basis. By choosing this site for the 114th Convention, the AES expects a high attendance of visitors from all parts of Europe and also from Asia and the USA.

dates

The Convention runs from Saturday 22nd to Tuesday 25th of March 2003 and offers a wide range of information related to Pro-Audio. With new concepts, both parts of the Convention, the conference and the exhibition, will complement one another even more than usual. This is the place to get the latest updates and make new contacts.

exhibition

All the important manufacturers in Pro-Audio will be exhibiting the very latest in equipment, including many brand new releases, on the exhibit floor or in demo rooms. The AES Exhibition is the only time you will see these exhibitors together under one roof. One of the most important features of the 114th Convention will be the new Exhibitor Seminars. This new type of presentation allows the industry to explain and demonstrate new products in a different framework than in a Paper or Workshop, or even the exhibition. The Exhibitor Seminars allow the visitor to explore the recent product developments in a very detailed way and will act as a link between the exhibition and the conference program.

tutorial seminar

As usual the conference program includes a high-class selection of papers and workshops on cutting edge technologies - the AES has always been the place to see into the future as well as what is current. But this year the AES introduces a new type of presentation, the Tutorial Seminar, where the principles of audio are explained in subjects like digital audio, room acoustics, audio level measurements and setting up a 5.1 playback system. These seminars offer essential information about the most important topics of today's audio technology and are intended both as an introduction to, and a reminder of, these topics for people from all backgrounds in Pro-Audio. It is important to remember that information and knowledge still is the key to success, particularly when business is harder than usual.

papers en posters

The Papers program this year is more vibrant than ever. With 120 Papers to be presented in 13 sessions it is a packed program. In addition, another 50 Posters will be shown. This greater emphasis on poster sessions is because engineers and developers can demonstrate their latest work with a more practical view than in a normal paper and can be combined with demonstrations on a laptop computer or with audible examples through headphones. The visitor can also make a closer contact with the author and the presentation can be more individual than in any other type of lecture! This is why a lot of recognized authors have chosen to give a poster rather than a paper this time.

workshops

Workshops offer information about current technologies in a more practical and interactive way. Discussions between the panelists as well as with the audience form the backbone of these events, which give real-world solutions to everyday practical problems. Because of the popularity of workshops, the AES prepared many on useful topics. Of course, the hot item 'surround sound' will be represented as well as the ongoing discussion concerning PCM versus DSD coding. A rather different subject will be aired in the workshop "The value of information", which will discuss ways of generating new income streams for producers. Also included will be workshops on Audio Post Production in 24p HDTV, Large Room Acoustic Problems and many more.

historical display

There will be an Historical Display on the exhibition floor, presenting an exhibit of carefully-selected artifacts from the early days of audio technology. The historical corner also offers an attractive program of demonstrations and lectures.

students

With a very full Students Program, the AES once again highlights the importance of education for students and newcomers alike. This year, the convention committee has made the students' events and the rest of the conference program fit together so that it is easier for students or newcomers to find their way among all the audio information on hand.

technical tours

And, of course, there are Technical Tours to many interesting places including recording studios, broadcasting stations and Philips Research Laboratories as well as a Social Mixer and a banquet at the Krasnapolsky Hotel.

new vision

In Amsterdam a new vision for the European AES is being created. Drawing on the success of the past thirty years and adding forward-looking new ideas, this will be the Pro-Audio event not to be missed.

As in past years, pre-registration and hotel reservations can easily be done through the Internet. The website is continuously updated with the latest information and thus gives a broad overview of the whole Convention Program.
